Why It's on the Top 50: Consolidated Edison has made the Top 50 list three of the last four years. The company is particularly strong in Human Capital and Supplier Diversity.

Diversity Strengths: Consolidated Edison has unbiased retention in its work force and its management, meaning retention rates are level across race/ethnicity and gender. The company has mandatory diversity training for its entire work force (only 70 percent of Top 50 companies have this). Fifty-nine percent of its female managers receiving promotions were women of color, compared with a Top 50 average of 33 percent. And the utility allocates 14 percents of its Tier I (contractor) procurement spending with minority- and women-owned suppliers, compared with a Top 50 average of 9.7 percent.
