The U.S. Supreme Court just issued a 5-4 ruling that strikes down voluntary- integration programs in public-school districts in Seattle, Wash. and Lousiville, Ky, reversing lower court opinions.

Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts said the schools, "failed to provide the necessary support for the proposition that there is no other way than individual racial classifications to avoid racial isolation in their school districts."

Justice Anthony Kennedy, whom many pitted as the swing vote in these decisions, sided with the majority opinion, although he did not concur with Roberts' contention that diversity was not a compelling interest for a student body.

What will happen as a result of these decisions and who will be most affected? Is this really the end to school integration? Stay tuned to DiversityInc for content you can't find anywhere else--a detailed analysis of the cases, opinions, the public response and everything else you need to know about this historic ruling and the implications for the future of race and education in America.
