What Bill Cosby Told Oprah

Comedian-turned-cultural critic Bill Cosby sounded off on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" yesterday, touting his new book and his message for personal accountability, according to Oprah.com. Cosby, along with coauthor Harvard Prof. Alvin F. Poussaint, addressed the issues they feel are plaguing the black community, among which are the increasing illiteracy, unemployment and incarceration rates.

Military Yanks Ads on Gay Web Site

 

The Army, Navy and Air Force yanked advertisements for recruits yesterday after finding job openings that surfaced on web sites for gays and lesbians. Unaware of the job positing on GLEE.com, a networking site for gay and lesbian professionals, recruiters expressed surprise and said they would remove the job listings, reports USA Today. The military, whose "don't ask, don't tell" policy bars gays and lesbians from being open about their orientation, ordered more than 8,000 hard-to-fill positions, including doctors, intelligence analysts and Arabic translators, removed from the web site, Capt. Jack Hanzlik, a Navy recruiting spokesperson, told USA Today. By late Wednesday, the posts were removed.

U.S. Saudi School Criticized

 

A report released Thursday by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom broadly criticized what it calls a lack of religious freedom in Saudi society and promotion of religious extremism at Saudi schools, reports FOXNews.com. The report, which highlights the Islamic Saudi Academy, a private school serving nearly 1,000 students in grades K-12 at two campuses in northern Virginia's Fairfax County, says the school's curriculum resembles the ones used in Saudi schools where they criticize for promoting intolerance and hatred of Jews, Christians and Shiite Muslims.
