The 41 doctoral students will receive $10,000 scholarships that are renewable for up to five years. To date, the KPMG Foundation has provided financial support for three-fourths of all accounting doctoral students from traditionally underrepresented groups in the U.S., totaling $8.6 million in scholarships.

New York Life Foundation is aiding in the prevention of "summer learning loss" by donating $500,000 toward the Building Leaders for Life (BELL) summer program. The program takes K--6 students from underperforming schools and makes them a part of a six-week intensive summer program to equip them with the necessary skills for the upcoming school year. BELL was founded in 1992 by Black and Latino Harvard students. It currently services 11,000 students with after-school and summer programs in the New York, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, and Springfield, Mass., areas.
