Obama Pushes Equal-Pay Bill

Sen. Barack Obama is courting women voters by pushing a Senate bill that would nullify a Supreme Court ruling that gives women 180 days to file a complaint of unequal pay, according to National Public Radio. Obama, who has increasingly focused on equal rights, is now using Lilly Ledbetter as a symbol for why pay discrimination is wrong. Ledbetter shared her story last month at the Democratic National Convention, saying: "Late in my career, someone left a note in my box at work showing my pay versus three males," she told the crowd. "We four were doing the exact same job, and their pay was drastically higher than mine." Obama has drawn criticism from opponent Sen. John McCain, who says if the legislation passes, businesses would be subject to "frivolous lawsuits."
