A transgender woman who once taught at Yeshiva University as a man has returned to teaching at the school after a two-year absence. Although school officials are officially mum on the issue, some rabbis have taken grave exception to her presence at the school, the New York Post reports.
Joy Ladin, formerly John Ladin, 47, returned to teaching on Monday. Rabbi Moshe Tendler, a senior dean at the university's rabbinical school, says there's no room for transgender individuals in a Jewish school, according to the article.
"He's not a woman. He's a male with enlarged breasts," Tendler told the New York Post. "He's a person who represents a kind of amorality which runs counter to everything Yeshiva University stands for. There is just no leeway in Jewish law for a transsexual."
Ladin has been dealing with the issue since she was granted tenure in 2006. Just weeks after getting the tenure, Ladin announced she was undergoing a sex change. At that time, the university put Ladin on indefinite leave.

Thank you for posting on this issue. I am surprised, however, that you quote some very negative and derogatory statement without any comment. Most of the people in the Jewish community have not reacted in this homophobic and prejudiced way.
There's a lot more to the issue than Rabbi Tendler's prejudice..
