Teen pop star Miley Cyrus has apologized for a controversial photo of her and others pulling up the corners of their eyes, a gesture considered offensive to Asian Americans, reports Newsday. Referring to the picture as a photo "of me with friends making goofy faces," Cyrus said on her official web site that "in no way was I making fun of any ethnicity."

The apology followed complaints by the OCA, an advocacy group for Asian Pacific Americans. Calling the photo "offensive," the OCA said Cyrus was setting "a terrible example for her many young fans."
