MasterCard returned to the list after a three-year hiatus at a time when its industry is in turmoil. That speaks to the company's increasing commitment to diversity. |
MasterCard has excellent work/life benefits, including family sick days and backup childcare and eldercare. The company also has first-rate benefits for same-sex partners of employees, including adoption assistance, family medical leave and relocation assistance.
The company also has five strong employee-resource groups, with 25 percent of employees participating in at least one of them.
Globally, the company ensures its values of diversity and inclusiveness are followed. MasterCard tell us: "MasterCard is a highly global company doing business in over 200 countries. In fact, the majority of MasterCard offices are located outside of the United States. MasterCard ensures its company values are followed globally by educating all of its employees on its core values and ethics through in-house training, and by strongly enforcing a strict Code of Conduct that is reviewed annually by all global employees. In addition, MasterCard ensures that all its customers (financial institutions around the world which offer its products and services) comply with MasterCard's rules and standards. MasterCard invests time and resources in surveying employees on ethics. Over the past several years, MasterCard global employees have ranked 'ethics' as the second most important attribute of the company's reputation, demonstrating the importance that is placed on this issue. MasterCard employees also rank the company highly in this attribute." |

Janice Burns, Chief Diversity Officer
"To me, diversity is about leveraging the unique strengths of each and every employee at MasterCard. Diversity is an enabler to help us drive business results, to deliver customized solutions and to deliver shareholder value. To realize the benefits of diversity, we must create a culture that encourages open dialogue and diversity of thought--a culture that will drive innovation and help us to be much more responsive in the current marketplace." |
