SC Johnson came back to the list after a hiatus because of its increasing efforts to have an inclusive workplace, including its efforts to reach out to LGBT employees and employees with disabilities.
Chairman and CEO Dr. Herbert Fisk Johnson III, the fifth generation of his family to lead the company, appoints members of the diversity council, meets regularly with employee-resource groups and signs off on diversity metrics and progress. Twenty percent of senior executives' bonuses are tied to diversity goals.

The company has excellent work/life benefits, including first-rate benefits for same-sex domestic partners of employees. SC Johnson has been known for many years as a very good company for LGBT employees and customers.

Thirty percent of employees are members of one of the 11 employee-resource groups: Abilitie First Business Council, African American Business Council, Hispanic Business Council, Gay/Lesbian Business Council, Women's Business Council, Early Careers Support Group, Elder Care Giver Support Group, Parents of Special Needs Children Support Group, Single Parents Support Group, Parents of Teens Support Group and Mature Workers Support Group.

The company has mandatory annual surveys with a diversity component, including an online performance feedback-management survey that allows employees to provide feedback on managers' "ability to foster a diverse and inclusive work environment."
