In its seventh year on the DiversityInc Top 50 list, HSBC - North America demonstrates an inclusive workplace, with strong employee-resource groups and effective diversity training.
The bank has extremely strong work-force diversity reflecting its increasingly multicultural customer base. The work force is 40.4 percent female but new hires are 56.2 percent female. Blacks and Latinos are 29.6 percent of the work force but 39.8 percent of new hires.
HSBC - North America also has good work/life benefits, including a Work-Life Solutions program that helps employees with life events such as parenting and retiring. The company also has first-rate benefits for same-sex domestic partners of employees.
The company has eight employee-resource groups: Asian Pacific Islander Committee; African Heritage Committee; GLOBE (Gay Lesbian and Other Business Employees); Women's Forum; HSBC Indian Network for Diversity (HIND); People with DisAbilities; Native American Diversity Committee; and Hispanic Latin Diversity Committee. The bank gets a perfect score for its best practices on employee-resource groups, including having a senior executive as a member of each and using the groups for recruitment and marketing purposes.
HSBC - North America has mandatory diversity training for its entire work force. Training is held every month for a full day.
