The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund announced that it is partnering with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to hold the NALEO Policy Institute on Health Communities at its annual convening. The initiative will provide more than 40 policymakers from throughout the country with the information necessary to address health disparities facing Latinos. The institute will take place during the organization's 26th Annual Conference, to be held in Los Angeles June 25-27, 2009.One of the most important issues facing our communities today is the staggering increase in rates of obesity and chronic disease. Wal-Mart's investment in this initiative will make possible intensive training and professional development for Latino policymakers and help enhance their capacity to become effective advocates for their communities.
