UPDATE: What did Rush Limbaugh do now? On Friday, he fell for a hoax saying that President Obama "dissed" the Constitution in his thesis at Columbia University. Although he quickly found out this wasn't true, he is not apologizing.

"So I shout from the mountaintops: 'It was satire!' But we know he thinks it. Good comedy, to be comedy, must contain an element of truth, and we know how he feels about distribution of wealth," Limbaugh said on his web site of Obama. "So we stand by the fabricated quote because we know Obama thinks it anyway. That's how it works in the media today."

The fake thesis—originally posted by a blogger named Michael Leeden—credited Time magazine reporter Joe Klein for its discovery. Leeden has since apologized for his satirical post. Klein issued the following statement on his time.com blog, Swampland: "A report is circulating among the wingnuts that I had a peek at Barack Obama's senior thesis. It is completely false. I've never seen Obama's thesis. I have no idea where this report comes from—but I can assure you that it's complete nonsense."

As of today, the headline and transcript from Limbaugh's statement last week remains on the homepage of his site: "Obama's Disdain for Constitution: We Know He Thinks It, Don't We? When we discover a hoax, we correct it immediately."

*************************

Judging the Miss America pageant and bidding for the St. Louis Rams "is the mainstreaming of Rush Limbaugh from off this far-right fringe [where the media has] tried to put me. I just keep tiptoeing into the mainstream," claims Rush Limbaugh on the "Today" show.

Is Limbaugh mainstream? And is the media preventing this conservative from being portrayed as mainstream? Here's what he says and here are the facts, with the sources cited and links providing the actual information:

Obama Winning the Nobel Peace Prize

Limbaugh said this: "He's not only the first post-racial president; he's also the nation's first post-accomplishment president. He has risen above incompetence. He's now judged on wishful thinking. Gore, Carter, Obama. Can you imagine how ticked off Bill Clinton had to be today? The first gut reaction, when he found out that this little man-child in Chicago has not done diddly-squat got the Peace Prize."

Gallup Poll found this: "Barack Obama's job approval rating, which had slipped to as low as 50 percent last week, now stands at 56 percent, getting a slight bounce after the announcement of Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win on Friday."

H1N1 Vaccine

Limbaugh said this: "I am not anti-vaccine. I am not anti-good health. I'm standing up for freedom and liberty, and I am not one of these people that thinks people in the government are infallible, that they never make mistakes and all they ever want to do is help us and protect us. What they really are are people who think we are incapable of taking care of ourselves or little nannies who want to control every aspect of all of our lives, and I'm not in that game.”

Pew Research Center reported this: "Almost two-thirds of Americans say they are very or somewhat confident in the government's ability to deal with the swine flu."

Sonia Sotomayor's Nomination

Limbaugh said this: "She makes a brazen racist comment about tens of millions of American citizens while she's a judge, and she's been rewarded for it with a nomination of the Supreme Court."

Gallup Poll found this: "Americans' reactions to Obama's nomination of Sotomayor skewed on the positive side, with 47 percent rating the nomination as 'excellent' or 'good,' 20 percent rating it 'only fair.'"

Gay Rights

Limbaugh said this: "[Gay-rights advocates are] going to keep it up until they wear you out. They're going to keep it up until you say, 'I don't care. OK. All right. Go get married. Just leave me alone' … Don't let 'em intimidate you this way."

Pew Research Center reported this: "A clear majority of Americans (57 percent) favors allowing gay and lesbian couples to enter into legal agreements with each other that would give them many of the same rights as married couples … 39 percent of Americans favor legalizing same-sex marriage."

Government's Mortgage-Relief Efforts

Limbaugh said this: "We can't pay everybody's mortgage forever. Besides, we're deepening the problem because we're delaying the market correction that will happen automatically if we just get out of the way and let it. But these are central planners. They know better than you."

The U.S. Treasury found this: The mortgage-relief effort has helped 500,000 homeowners, and it is on track to help up to 4 million homeowners within three years.

In each point cited in this article, independent research shows that the majority of Americans do not concur with Limbaugh's opinions. He is, therefore, not mainstream—and his opinions are far outside those of mainstream America.

This article is right on! Limbaugh is always spouting of garbage and it is about time someone called him out!.

Rush Limbaugh is an ideologue representing the worst in America. He's a good example of what not to be. It is amazing he gets any sponsorship. I personally have chosen not to patronize the stations he is on or the products he is involved with. Thank God he is not going to be an NFL owner!.

Thanks for approaching remarks with facts and not wishful thinking. .

The beauty of America is that we have free speech; my problem was not with Limbaugh it is with the masses of people who follow him. Rush is paid huge amounts of money to speak at events all over the country. It is obvious that many people agree with his views no matter how devisive they are. I personally have no problem with Rush or anyone else owning whatever they can afford. However just like the carpenter gets splinters people who talk for a living usually trip on their own words. Imagine how different the world would be if each person was held accountable for every word that they speak?.

Like most of the media, you have become very good at diversionary (pun intended) brainwashing techniques. In this case, you tie facts to the point you want to make, whether or not it makes sense (as the old saying goes, statistics never lie, but liars use statistics ). The survey results you cite have little to do with the opinions you are attempting to dimiss as extremist. Here, I've got another... Quote: I don't like Brussell Sprouts. Survey says: 86% of Americans believe that vegetables are good for you. I'm not trying to say that Rush Limbaugh really is mainstream (or that he's not), but you need to watch your credibility if you want to influence people to another way of thinking..

I say any minority women should drop out of the contest and try again next year. You have NO chance of winning, after Limbaugh gives you zeroes..

Its good to see people get at this crazy dude. i have hearing the guy every sence the primary elections and really pull his card. to tell truth he needed obama to win and may help him in winning the election. he had a lot of his fans change their voting register to democrat and vote republican, but really happened is when it was time for them to vote in november, they wasnt able to switch back in time or their vote did nt count. thats something he has not told his fans. Think about it, what kind of matiarl could used if john mccain had won the election, NOTHING. he dont care about his fans, or anything else, JUST MONEY. he has became even a more richer man off the black man. and i would even be suprised if john mccain was in this too. why in the hell would he picked sahar palin. *((*#(*_)@#)Q@, .

since joining this publication Several months now... I am now convinced that with ever action there is an equal opposite reaction.. and IMHO you guys are just the reaction to Rush and Ann Coulter both of whom I think are very extreme nut jobs on the conservative side... I find most of your articles to be sooooo far left... you should be called Lefties Inc....

I normally do not respond to such articles as the one I've just read, but this time I found it necessary. First of all why in the world would Diversity Inc., even get into this? Is your article of any benefit to us other than adding to the smear of and limitation of his Free Speech rights. Do I think that Rush is "mainstream", ABSOLUTELY. He is not politically correct however, and I believe that is why he is primarily being attacked. Furthermore, most of the comments attributed to Rush last week were completely unfounded, and were not researched for accuracy, and I personally find that abhorent. Whether you be Democrat or Republican, Purple, Pink, or Blue - when this type of smear campaign by the media is allowed we will all suffer. You and I may not agree with many of the voices out there today, but we need to always assure the right to voice those opinions; when we loose that right, we loose our freedoms..

the thing for rusty is the he has freedom of speech, and he is not required to prove anything he said, because is all a mater of his opinion, hopefully his listers figure this out be for its to late. he is the charles manson of politic.

Is Rush Limbaugh a “mainstream conservative”? If mainstream conservatism means making unsupported disparaging comments about Black people in general, Barack Obama in particular, feminists, and gays and then (when confronted with a negative response from those who find him offensive) trying to claim anti-conservative persecution or main stream media bias or claiming to be misquoted/misunderstood/misheard or simply lying and denying ever making the comment, Rush qualifies. In short: YES, if being a mainstream conservative means being a xenophobic, homophobic, sexist bloviating clown who is little more than the overpaid noise between commercials. Of course, that could also be Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck, huh? .

He is not mainstream. He would be if he valued the contributions of all Americans, regardless of race, creed or color, but he does not recognize all US citizens as American. When I listen to the callers, most of them spew out the same hate he does. He brings out the worse in people. Just because you blast certain people on the air, does not make you a hero. He said the President did nothing to receive recognition for the Nobel Prize. My question is "What has Rush done for the American people? At least the President recognizes all ethnic groups within the American society respectfully. All Rush does is cause division amongst the people. That is not a service, that is a disservice..

Replying to, "The beauty of America is that we have ...Imagine how different the world would be if each person was held accountable for every word that they speak?" I agree. It would be very nice if President Obama was held accountable for his orations. I'll have to admit, he's a very artful speaker, attractive, full of youth and vigor. The only problem...if you listen closely and delve into the arena, you'll find out he's saying one thing and doing another. One thing I noticed about the replies to this article; most people here don't like Rush, but it seems as if you listen to him on a regular basis..

Why is Rush Limbaugh's 'Racist" comments given so much attention from the media. He seems to be encourgaed to the next step of insults by the attention he gets form the media. Main stream Americans don't listen to his show and his comments don't carry any weight with us. So let's keep an eye on him but, no encourage him..

It does seem strange that President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize, when there are several others that seemed to deserve it. I don't listen to Rush often, but it seems to me that when people are super critical of him, they are often just as full of bile as he is..

I think that it's time for this man's 15 minutes of fame to come to an end. It's time for the USA and the world to turn him off of their radios and other media. .

With over 9 million listeners, I think Rush Limbaugh is more at the top of of any "main stream" media group!.

Rush Limburger is an entertainer. He could care less whether anyone agrees or disagrees. Just keep mentioning his name: Limburger. I am reminded of the late and not lamented George Lincoln Rockwell, head of the American Nazi Party until one of his followers blew him away. His members would call our newsroom, pretending to hate the American Nazi Party and spitting venom about the group and complaining about how they were demonstrating on this or that street corner... hoping to trick us into covering the demonstration. Limburger says stuff hoping someone will react. And low and behold, someone always does..

Sportscasters get driven off the air for slips of the tongue which could be constued as racist but Rush and Beck and their ilk get paid big money for even worse. So much for free speech, fairness and holding broadcasters accountable for their words..

What Rush Limbaugh does is treason. By extension, his radio and TV broadcasters and sponsors are complicit in treason. They say they broadcast truth.. Our founding fathers established a free speech and a free press so that an informed electorate armed with the truth can make the best choices to "...form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity,..." I know that Mr. Limbaugh would consider that stated purpose of our nation, the vision of our founding fathers so much liberal claptrap. By focusing on irrelevant male bovine excrement, false propaganda sources, outright lies and creating a distraction from an impartial, unbiased presentation of all of the pertinent facts Rush Limbaugh is violating the sacred trust granted him by the First Amendment. Mr. Dobbs is abrogating his responsibility to inform the public. Both of these repudiations of his sacred trust. It borders on treason. NO! it is Treason! ~;^}> .

Mr. Limbaugh is more interested in denegrating anyone who does not agree with his radical views than he is in the best interest of the nation. After President Obama was elected, I remember him stating that it was more important to bring down the left wing politicians than solve the country's problems. While I think that what he says is a bunch of bigoted garbage spewed by a self serving jackass, his right to say this gargage is protected by the first ammendment. How ironic it is to see him hiding behind the "liberal" constitution.rather than "manning up" and admitting his mistake..

Please do not tell me that anyone did expect an apology from Rush. Anyone with common sense or no sense at all will or should know he says what he wants, unchallenged and definitely non apologetic.. I think the excuse is as always "freedom of speech" always for R.L. .
Posted Monday Nov 2, 2009 by Guest;
If you force him off the air because you don't agree with him, how would the rest of the world respond to violating the 1st Amendment of our own Bill of Rights? We'de be called hypocrites -- acting no differently than the 3rd Reich, the 'Old' Russia of years past, or the present-day China..

Good grief. It's like you think readers can't actually read. You write, "In each point cited in this article, independent research shows that the majority of Americans do not concur with Limbaugh's opinions. He is, therefore, not mainstream—and his opinions are far outside those of mainstream America." Really? For example, Rush is against legalizing gay marriage. You yourself report in this article that "39 percent of Americans favor legalizing same-sex marriage." So, okay, just over 1/3 of Americans, according to Pew, support gay marriage....ergo, 2/3 are against it. In other words, the majority of Americans are against gay marriage. Just like Rush..

Wow I found a hotbed of people who hate. If they could only listen with the intensity they hate, perhaps they would realize what has become of our founding father's vision..

Has Obama apologized to FOX NEWS? Seriously, has Obama ever apologized to anyone for anything? Has he apologized to Michele Obama for hustling her off the stage on election night, 2008? No! He wanted the spotlight for himself. He ALWAYS wants the spotlight for himself!.

Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. He makes a living making outrageous comments that appeal to a particular demographic. I cannot take him seriously enough to evaluate his true political position, if he has one. I would say the same thing about Don Imus.I have never had any difficulty ignoring either of them..
